Work Layout

Sometimes I think I forget how fortunate I am to be able to work from home. I am a mom first and foremost but after that I am a freelance writer. That’s what pays the bills. I am a scrapbook consultant next, and while teaching classes and workshops certainly brings me in a bit of cash each month, it is the writing that pays the bills.

I was excited last month to realize it had been two years since I had started writing for one of my gigs.
I created this layout and the title is how many minutes there are in two years. (I love the song Seasons of Love from Rent) :)

Obviously this is so not CTMH stuff. The ink that was used is, but the rest was part of a kit I have had sitting here FOREVER. I have challenged myself to start to use up my old kit stash so I can begin really using all the great CTMH stuff (and well, I need to make room for more CTMH stuff) :)

STTT Complete

I finally made my STTT. I was so not sure I would make it. The deadline was tomorrow, and if I didn’t make it, it was over and I lost my chance at all this great product.

But nope. I made the first one, so I already have $25 sitting there in product credit just waiting for me to snatch it up and use it.

Tonight I placed my final STTT order. It put me $90 over what I needed anyway, so that is awesome. I now (or next time they update the stats) will have $150 total to spend on whatever stamps or paper packs I want. Yay! I am anxiously waiting to use it on the must have items from summer and fall. :)

What Do You Get a Toddler These Days?

I am so out of the loop with two 13 year olds, an 11 year old, a 10 year old and a 9 year old, it has been a LONG time since I have had to purchase toddler items. Not that I am complaining….too much.

Actually some of my best friends have babies and toddlers and we always seem to be shopping for something for this age group. Who knew that such tiny people needed so many things? It is difficult to find what you are looking for too. Last weekend we were at six stores to find this one stupid food puree thing my friend wanted. She had seen it online. Then why didn’t she just shop for her toddler online? You can get all sorts of products for babies and toddlers online.

Guess what we never found and what she had to order? Yep! It probably cost her less buying it online too, except we spent a load in gas that day running around just to shop for a toddler. However, we did find some really cute toddler clothing while shopping around online for this food puree thing. I had no idea that shopping online could be so much fun!

TLC Consultants Sign Up Now

Wow, I knew I worked with an amazing company, but I did not know just how amazing it is.

First of all, I am so sad about TLC ‘going out of business’ and to all the many consultants who were affected by this, I feel terrible. I cannot imagine what it has to feel like to have this awesome business and then have it just almost belly up in spite of all your efforts individually.

Close to my Heart though, seems to be there for you.

Starting tomorrow, April 15 – April 30, 2008 there is a special promotion for former TLC consultants to sign up with CTMH and get a SERIOUSLY reduced kit (stocked full of some of the most fabulous items!!).

ANY FORMER TLC Consultant who enrolls as a new Close To My Heart Consultant April 15-30 will receive a New Consultant Kit for 50% off! Do you know how much that is? You will receive a normal new consultant kit which is valued at $400 US/$440 CAN and normally is offered at $150 US/ $165 CAN for only $75 US/ $82.50 CAN.
That is simply awesome.

If you are wondering what is included in the new consultant kit: a how-to book, copies of the current issues of both the Idea Book and KeyNotes®, product samples (paper, stamps, inks, etc.), color swatches, and business forms to support Home Gatherings.

The promo code for FORMER TLC consultants only is TLC2008. To learn more about becoming a CTMH consultant you can visit here. OR if you want to sign up for this amazing price of 50% off you can sign up here.

I’d be happy to have you sign up so we can work together!

Let me know if you have any questions!

That Perfect Gift

Is there really such a thing? The ‘perfect gift’ – seems almost subjective to me. However, you know what I really don’t like? Trying to find a gift for someone who has EVERYTHING?

It is time’s like this that I venture beyond my comfort zone and try and think outside the box. I want to get something for someone that is memorable, yet exciting and thrilling to receive all at the same time.

I think I might have found the prefect gift for those that have everything or who you cannot think of anything to buy for.

The Family Portrait Platter is not only a really cool gift to receive, but practical too in that it will get years of use at all sorts of events and special occasions. You can find a cute picture of these platters here. You can choose from a variety of sizes, styles and totally adorable characters to adorn your completely customized platter. There is nothing better than finding the ‘perfect gift’. Oh, and they make perfect wedding anniversary gifts too!

Font Crazy

The better part of the weekend was used to create a few layouts which required multiple fonts. Since I couldn’t seem to find a font I wanted already installed on my computer, I grabbed my ‘My Book’ where I keep most of my font files and began digging through them all to find the perfect match for what I was looking for.

I did find several I had forgotten about and they are now happily installed on the computer. But what startled me, is how many fonts I actually HAVE installed and that I have downloaded.

*3107*

What is NOT included in that number is the fonts I have on CD, the fonts I have that I purchased in software programs, etc. I have a lot of freakin’ fonts. I mean, I’ve always known I am a font freak, period. But wow. I had no idea how many I actually had. And the scariest part, is that I hardly use a quarter of them. Usually I pretty much stay with about 15 of my trusty fonts.

So weird. I know they are people who have MUCH more installed on their computers, by no means is this some sort of competition, but out of curiosity, what do you have?

Blended Families: Gifts and Spoiled Children – Evaluate First

I wasn’t going to do another post on this subject, because I seriously thought that it might be too much dealing with one particular thing or subject.

Instead what I realized by the original post, and the comments and emails I have been getting ever since, is that it is a problem that a lot of families face, and it might be helpful to delve into it a bit more.

First, you need to review your situation. You need to look at it from all angles, and be sure that there really is a problem. What I mean is, are you sure that there are children who aren’t getting as much as others? Are you looking at all sides of this? For instance, it might seem as if some of the kids are getting all these gifts from extended family members, but don’t the other kids have extended family members that also might spoil the children?

Are there times when certain children are at home with you, while others are away, and that might be spoiled a little in other ways?

For instance, I tend to do more with my children when the step-kids are visiting their mom every other weekend. We go out for ice cream, sometimes to dinner, we might take in a movie or visit the zoo or something else. While it might not see like a gift, it is special time with my children and the other kids are not involved at that point because they are off with their own mother.

Or does it seem like maybe you cannot do these things with your children, and maybe it is when the step-kids are away – they are the ones being spoiled. Sometimes this cannot be controlled and building a healthy relationship with your own children should be foremost in your mind.

You might be surprised to learn that even just sitting down and reading or doing crafts with your kids will make them happier than getting gifts.
Take a walk, play a game, watch a movie snuggled together (yes even with older kids), etc. You need to teach your children that gifts are not everything, the gift of time and love is far more important than any old monetary thing. Now, with all of that said, it is still difficult for younger children to appreciate that. So I will delve further into that in a future article.

Have a happy day!

Bra & Panty Card

UPDATE: My friend saw these (the bra and panty or bikini cards) and decided she wanted me to make her some for a pool party this summer. I’ve already started (using a different template), and they are way easy to make dozens of, once you get the hang of it.

Also thought I’d give you the link where you can download your own pattern or template to make a bra and panty card – this was not the one I originally used, but I loved this one so much that I have switched to using it. Stamp Owl is brilliant! Click Here. Her card is SO cute!

These bra and panty cards were just too cute not to try myself. I tried to make them look more like bikini’s so my kids would not think I was losing my mind, plus I could think of nothing to do with a card of a bra and pair of panties. My kids giggled, but they thought they were awesome. LOL I had to download them each a template to make their own bra and panty / bikini card. :)

The bow on this card looks lopsided but it isn’t at all on the actual card. I have no idea why it looks like this on this picture.

The Difference is Clear

How come all the cutest stamps are created anywhere but here. Man those ladies are so talented. And these stamps are so difficult to get.

So cute! See what I mean?
