The Best Gift…Ever!

This year for my birthday, my friend decided she was going to try to do something for me that fit me. She had noticed a lack of “decorating” in my home, and thought it might be nice to somehow do something like that for me. So the first gift I got was these gorgeous 48″ bracketless shelves for my walls. She wanted me to put them in my bedroom but with the darker color, they better match my living room. I love them and am excited to get them installed and put things on them. She also bought me the movie Clue, because yes, I have not seen it yet. Weird, I know. But apparently all my friends adore it and they thought it to be the perfect gift. Better get on that.

The last gift came several days later after they had treated me to a beautiful, awesome dinner at the Melting Pot which was absolutely the best! When we arrived back at their house, where their teenager daughter was babysitting my kiddo’s, I was presented with the following:

Which as soon as possible will be hung on my wall. Now here is the story behind this. She knows I am a Mom first and foremost, and knew that if I did do some decorating, that my childrens’ artwork would be my art of choice. So she had each one of my children complete a small painted canvas, which she then mounted into this frame after carefully painting (beautifully I might add) the mat that goes in it. I am so amazed at the whole thing and it’s absolutely perfect. Here is the artwork up close so you can see who did what. (oh and the first one was done by my beautiful, honorary, surrogate, 6th child. (see previous post)

Lexi, age 16
(a flower with decorations)

Ryan, age 14
(flowers climbing a trellis)

Vanessa, age 13
(cool dude smiley)

Melissa, age 11
(a cat)

Brielle, age 10
(flower pot with flowers on sides)

Jessica, age 9
(it’s a bear with balloons)

I have seriously got the greatest six kids in the world!

I will cherish this gift forever, and it will always be on my wall!

Life Delights Memory Showcase

So I’m behind the times, yes I know.

Yesterday I finally pulled out my Life Delights Memory Showcase kit because I was tired of dusting it off. So why did I wait so long? Because I just could not understand why I would want to make an album of that design. (the accordian stand up thing). Let me just say now, I am going to be making loads of them. What a perfect gift idea. Who knew? (yes I realize many of you have known for a very long time, I just happen to be behind the times a bit and couldn’t get it).

The things I liked about it: When I opened the kit (yes I just broke the seal yesterday morning!), I was thrilled with the ease of the layouts, the sizes of the photographs required and the idea behind a “family showcase”.

I didn’t want to wait to get any different photographs enlarged to cut down to a 5×5 which was requested so I cut them to 4×4 and wrote and/or stamped on the bottom of the mat.

I changed it up a little but I mostly used their diagrams with the exception of a few My Stickease changes, a couple of rotated pages and different sized photographs (plus two added embellishments and two added stamps)

Altered CD Case

Look what I made out of some trash and scraps of scrapbooking supplies! Gosh I just love Altered Art!

This was my first attempt at an altered CD case. I had all of these magnetic AOL Cd cases just sitting around and I decided to alter one and see how it turned out. I absolutely love it and have it in my scrap area on a shelf so I can stare at it. It was supposed to hold a mini album of my kids, but I just like staring at it. LOL

Oh, and it was made out of these ridiculous things that we used to get all the darn time.
